Those No-Drivin' Promoters
The Charlotte Observer  (October 1, 2004)

I don't like Doug Daniel. He's cocky and brutish.

Wait. Maybe I should start at the beginning.
I sped along the go-kart track Wednesday feeling good about my skills when this guy slammed into my car, muscling me to the outside of the lane.

It was Daniel.

We were racing at Victory Lane when he lapped me and pushed me aside like I was driving a Big Wheel. I cursed him under my breath and floored the gas, desperate to catch him.

I finally did - in the parking area.

He smiled sweetly and asked how I liked it.

"Great," I said, "until some (expletive) bumped me."

His eyes widened.

"That was you?" he asked.

"I thought it was him," he said pointing to his buddy Brandon Crumpton.
We laughed.

Driving go-karts at the center, off Statesville Avenue near I-85, gives the two of them a brief break before the hectic weekend.

While Carolina Panthers fans will be firing up grills Sunday for the home game versus the Atlanta Falcons, Daniel and Crumpton of Daniel Entertainment Group will be providing the entertainment for corporate parties at the stadium. They are overseeing a variety band for South Lawn Village hospitality area for the Panthers, two bands in the club level of the stadium and another band to play a pep rally sponsored by 107.9 The Link (WLNK-FM). They've also booked acts for private parties.

For someone like Daniel, who's whose job involves music, partying isn't the typical bar scene. Karting is a rare pleasure.

And no, I don't really think Daniel is cocky or brutish, but I do plan to get revenge next time we race.
